Celestial Body Dress:

Inspired by the Yoruba people and Indigo tradition, the final cocktail dress is modular in nature and reimagines the symbolic motif of the star. In the Yoruba Indigo tradition, “it is ... believed that each star in the sky represents a human soul on earth. For this reason, when a star falls off the sky, a human soul is believed to have passed on.” Each module represents a star and also draws inspiration from the symbolic meaning of the dot in Yoruba Indigo tradition. A dot can be created with a multiple of resist techniques and is considered a “spiritual point of brightness, and symbols of the rebirth and transformation of a human soul.”  The symbolism behind this design will hopefully provide confidence and strength to the wearer of this garment.
